This tutorial will teach you how to project shadows from primitives. If you want to move on to more complex shapes, I suggest two things: practice doing a bunch of simple shading exercises, and just observe the shadows that objects project in your everyday life. Observation is a key element for this part of sketching.

LOL, it took me a while
Can you please demonstrate how to draw cast shadows when several forms are put together, i.e cubes at different angles. I am trying to draw a chair but and am having trouble determining the cast shadow using the above method. Thank you.
I´ll try to get to that… meanwhile you can estimate by drawing the cast shadow the same way you would draw a top view of the chair and just place it a bit to the side. Does that make any sense?
